We need folk to spread the news about the plight of the endangered Swift Parrot (Lathamus discolor). With only 1000 breeding pairs left, their habitat is being lost to the extremes in climate, industrial scale logging, land clearing and urban development, they are heading toward extinction and in fact they may be placed on the critically endangered list.
You can help! There are many ways to assist. Write your local council representatives, the newspaper, political party members, and state and federal ministers responsible for the forest and environment. Contact Forestry Tasmania and ask them to end logging permanently in the habitats Swift parrots rely on for foraging and breeding on Bruny Island.. Tell them old forests and forests with conservation values should be left standing and used as beautiful places to visit now and for generations to come. Let your voice be heard so that we can continue to hear the voices of this very special species. Let us leave Bruny Island's forests for future generations of Swift parrots to fly through, perch and sing to their mates and offspring.
